The trustees of Mount Pleasant Bacup were asked to consider the possibility of building a new chapel "below Bacup" . The neighbourhood of Pippin Bank was thought ot be desirable and Mr J.M.Holt was asked to sell land for the purpose. He declined.. Mr John Maden of Rockliffe House grandson of the first Methodist in Bacup offered a site.  A school - chapel was built  and became known as Wesley Place opening in 1851.
