Opening of new clubhouse 1940.
Formed in the first half of 1910 the first Golf links in Bacup were at Cowtoot Farm. Officially opened on July 2nd 1910 by the Mayor Alderman J. H. Maden. Who was also president of the club. The ceremony took place on a day of heavy rainfall. The Mayor officially opened the course with a suitably inscribed driver he had been presented with earlier on in the proceedings. A friendly match between the Mayor and the Captain of the club Mr Joseph Entwistle ensued. In 1916 the club moved to Bankside Lane, a cottage being used as a clubhouse for about seven years. In May, 1923, New Barn Farm, Bacup, was erected to serve as a club house. This was 30 yards long and two storeys high.
On January 19, 1939 tragedy hit in the shape if a fierce fire which completely burned out the clubhouse and reduced it to a charred shell. The Steward and Stewardess Mr and Mrs. G. W. Taylor, together with their ten year old son had a exciting escape. The cause of the fire was unknown.

Cricket Stacksteads Cricket Club was formed at a public meeting held at Stacksteads Workmen's Club on July 29th 1902 there was a attendance of between 250 and 300 people present. Shortly after the meeting negotiations were completed for a plot of land near Waterbarn Baptist Chapel for use as a Cricket Field and the first annual general meeting of the club took place on February 10th 1903. On April 20th 1904 the club finally managed to persuade magistrates to grant them a licence so they could sell intoxicants at their home matches. The club had quite a successful existence with first class players which even included two paid professionals who went by the names of Woods and Getrix and were paid about 30s per week. Other players included names such as Billy Walkden, Herbert Shepherd, Harry Maudlsey, Jos Brookes and John Ed Maden.
A friendly match played at the Bacup ground between Bacup and Stacksteads first eleven usually kicked off the season. Other teams that Stacksteads played against were Castleton Moor, Newhey, Greenbooth, Spotland, Moston, Westhulme, Fieldhouse to name but a few. Stacksteads second eleven pictured below won the Lancashire Council league in 1912. The club was disbanded in 1914, that same year Waterbarn Recreative Association was formed and Britain found herself caught up in the Great War.
