The houses known as Frost Holes stood close to the mill known as Banks Mill clearance orders were issued for the demolition of Frost Holes houses in March 1937.Nos 1, 3 and 5 Pearl Street, Nos 2, 4, 6 and 8 Frost Holes. Nos 1, 1a, 3, 5,7 and 9 Blackwood Road, and Nos 2, 5 and 4 Station View. Siddals bridge and the houses of Moss row in the distance.
Random Row pictured right was known as some of the better housing in the area. On land at the back of these houses was the quarry known as Frost Holes.

Blackwood Road houses on the left were numbered as Blackwood Road the houses behind accessed by a landing were those of Barlow Street. The cleared area on the right is were the house of Lloyd Street once stood.

In 1518 land at Brandwood was let for a term of 19 years to six families of the name of Ashworth who migrated from the parish of Ashworth near Norden, Rochdale. Waterbarn Lane pictured above left led to Rakehead lane pictured below right one of the old access routes to the village of Cowpe.
